"Stock out Reduction through Inventory Optimization" -Every organization needs inventory for smooth running of its activities. It serves as a link between production and distribution process. It has a great impact on profitability of the manufacturing firm thus it is essential to have proper management and control of inventory. Poor or inadequate inventory management can present a serious challenge to the productive capacity of a manufacturing firm. Therefore the purpose of inventory management is to ensure availability of raw materials in adequate quantity as and when required and to make the right choice while investing in inventories. Also inventory control measures need to be adopted to reduce the cost and wastage associated with inventories. The project focuses on the inventory management and control techniques that can be adopted at Gsk horlicks factory General Stores, Dowleswaram. In this project a systematic approach has been used to identify the inventory management problems associated with the company and necessary suggestions have been made to improve the inventory management system. The Necessary Safety Stock, Reorder Point and Reorder Quantity were calculated, followed by a Inventory policy analysis. The results showed the need for proper inventory management at the organization. After identifying the problem the selective inventory control tools were used to analyze the inventory. Based on the analysis a control matrix was designed. The various combinations of matrix associated with the items were ranked and grouped into classes. This classification helps in designing a selective inventory control policy for each class based on their importance and priority. Thus the policy helps in asserting the right control on the right class of items at the right time
