I competed in tournaments with one of the top college mock trial programs in the nation (UC Berkeley). As an attorney, I performed written and improvised statements and examinations. I also argued objections, using a modified version of the Federal Rules of Evidence. As a witness, I constructed engaging, likable characters, which I played in trials. As part of the "Synthetic Biology" cluster, I worked on numerous bioengineering labs and projects, with instruction from UCSD professors. My final group project won the award for being the best Synthetic Biology project in the program. It involved researching methods for modeling light-regulated gene expression in the genetically engineered "pDawn" plasmid. Additionally, I won First Place out of 200+ students in the program's scientific ethics essay contest, writing my paper on the downstream effects of germline engineering. Within my cluster, I won awards for "Jack of All Trades" and "Most Commitment to Project".
