My son and I compose/arrange music for independent song-writers and short film makers. We have also created music on multiple occasions for Doordarshan (Bengaluru). Our music has been selected by more than one business house to be included into their store music play-list. Here's more information about my personal music releases under the title of Instrumental Conversations. Instrumental Conversations is an Indian band consisting of the father-son duo, Ravi and Rahul. They write original instrumental music and opened with their debut album, Windswept (2013). This was followed by a single, All In a Days Work (2015) and albums, Nature and Places (2015), This And That (2016), Smell the Roses (2017), Ten (2018). All songs have been written, arranged and produced by Ravi and Rahul, who are both multi-instrumentalists. I'm a self-taught multi-instrumentalist. I've been composing my own tunes since the mid-80's and had participated in college cultural events and some inter-college events too, winning them playing my originals. As I did not want to take chances with my future I chose to take up a career as an IT professional with the intent to leave in my mid-40's to go do something independent to once again take up my interest in arts more seriously. The goal was to understand audio production and produce my own music.Teaching was, therefore, the first choice. The key motivation behind Raga School of Music. I continue to teach guitar, audio production and harmonica. Based on my personal learnings I've built my own teaching curriculum designed to help any new student to get upto speed in the shortest period of time. The trick was to leave out everything which didn't matter! Over the past few years, I've helped initiate learning in a little over 7000 students. The school peaked in terms of size and disciplines by around 2013 - apart from Guitar, we had students for Keyboard, Veena, Tabla, and Drums. And then as the production activities began taking more of my time I decided to scale down rather than depend on other teachers in a highly volatile environment. Though the entrepreneurial urge was beginning to peak, I decided to set it aside for like 2 years in order to re-join the RelQ Leadership team. RelQ had been acquired by EDS and there was an expectation to help setup a Global Test Practice across all of EDS with the RelQ Leadership driving it. Within a few months' of my joining, all of EDS was acquired by HP. It was clear to me that the time was now for me to go independent to pursue my goals in the space of music. This was the shortest tenure by my personal standards but I did contribute to strengthening the Solutions and BFSI teams that I was part of in the few months I spent.

As the first managerial hire for the R&D centre, my contributions had to go beyond the role I was hired for. That is what excited me to accept the offer. Along with an expat Manager, the next few years saw us not only delivering to the Enterprise R&D arm's charter but also grow the India site. Specifically, my focus was on establishing the Test Organisation. Within 18 months, after having set up the Enterprise Software Product Test and OS Test teams, I was tasked with setting up the India Enterprise System Test team. Each of these teams worked with their US counter-parts to deliver products to a global customer base. After some 3 years we influenced many other changes - moving to our own dedicated space, getting our own support function representatives such as HR, Finance and Admins - since the nature of doing business was different from other existing businesses of Dell in India at that point in time.Some of the key challenges which had to be overcome during this phase were: finding the near-fit candidates and grooming them (eg. people with storage tech test/dev skills), finding top talent who were willing to own a piece of the long term vision for the site. Many who came in as individual contributors are today senior leaders.The last assignment before leaving was to help establish the Enterprise Hardware Validation/Test Team. In between when all of Test across Dell Worldwide merged (both Enterprise and Client) I was asked to lead all of Test for the India site. Looking back, I'd say that some of the best talent came from schools and colleges which were hardly known. Also, the approach of finding and hiring people smarter and potentially more capable than me has helped each of those teams grow from strength to strength and create a strong leadership pipeline.

RelQ, a startup in the space of Verification and Validation founded by a fantastic team with a lot of experience in Testing and Quality was an obvious next step. Joined as a Test Manager and from day-2 was involved in variety of assignments - supporting the business development team as a technical rep, reviewing and guiding multiple on-going engagements in varied projects for different clients. Notable wins were GPRS protocol stack testing and getting into areas new to RelQ such as Storage and Enterprise Testing. My proposal to re-align RelQ across specific domain verticals resonated with the views of the Directors and the subsequent re-org resulted in me being elevated as GM for one of the verticals which was responsible for any assignments outside of BFSI and Aerospace, the other 2 verticals. This gave me the opportunity to establish a robust Project Management Office (there were 24 projects running for various clients across the world (Americas, UK, Japan and local clients involving around 80 resources). Established a skills-matrix to help identify the right talent for the right engagements, identifying gaps and training needs, identifying SMEs to bank on. Established a staff rotation model across projects to ensure no resource was stuck forever on the same engagement (was a win-win for all stake-holders). This also helped in identifying the right skills to hire. Also established some uniform set of metrics to assess projects and efficiencies. Despite a fantastic future in a wonderful environment, I chose to leave earlier than I had imagined to accept an offer from Dell India R&D as a Test Manager, the centre's first Managerial hire.

Delivered on a variety of software development projects including multiple domains. Mission critical defence projects, customisation of MMI graphics for a SCADA solution, a multi-protocol based financial solution, testing of a VPN client solution developed by a Russian company (my first over-seas assignment) involving distributed teams, leading my team on multiple testing engagements for large banking solutions which were being delivered by HP. After about 10 years in typical software development areas across multiple domains I had decided to shift focus to Verification and Validation to expand on my experience and learning.

Started my career as a full time employee. Initially started with coding (Clipper) for a business application and then was selected to lead product (SOFTCAST) development in the area of solidification simulation of metal castings in collaboration with IISc, Bangalore. Scope increased to include software development, creating a team, techno-marketing, implementation and training for clients. We were one of the first to use Watcom C to port our solution from Turbo C to take advantage of 32-bit architecture.
