I am currently a Professor at the Indian Institite of Science, Bangalore. I obtained my B.Tech degree from IIT Madras, M.S. degree from the University of Alabama, and PhD from the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. I joined the faculty of IISc in 1999 in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and have been teaching there ever since. I also head the National Centre for Combustion Research & Development (NCCRD) at IISc. My research interests broadly cover Energy Systems and Thermal Sciences. Specifically, my research involves Combustion and Flow Diagnostics using Laser-based Techniques with applications in IC Engines, Gas Turbines and Industrial Burners. I have over 200 publications in journals and conferences and hold 7 patents. My group has active collaboration with industry partners in the automotive, energy and aerospace domains such as Siemens, Pratt & Whitney (USA), TVS Motors, Tata Motors, Bosch, Ashok Leyland, Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). I am a member of various national and international societies in the areas of combustion, atomization and IC engines. Out of the 20 PhD students that I have graduated so far, 8 are currently faculty members in the various IITs.
