Creative Producer ProgramArs Electronica Jul 2021 - Sep 2021As interdisciplinary collaboration emerges as a vital linchpin in an increasingly interconnected world, the role of Creative Producer is coming to the fore. We appear across industries and sectors, and can broadly be identified by a common commitment to collaborative process, relationship building, and creative problem solving. For many, having self-defined and developed our practice independently, we are now looking for community and collective professional identity. I was one of 22 creative producers across 10 countries and 4 continents who gathered to critically reflect on our role and the impact it has on the New Digital Deal, and co-author a manifesto for Creative Producing at Ars Electronica 2021. Ars Electronica is a leading international institution of New Media, based out of Linz, Austria. -

Artist And Postgraduate ResearcherThe Bartlett School Of Architecture, Ucl Sep 2019 - Feb 2021London, England, United KingdomThesis Research: Counterproductive (Awarded Distinction)Counterproductive is a robotic installation about the consequences of algorithmic bias in artificial intelligence. The work is presented through the format of short film. There is an increasing dependence on AI in the daily lives of human beings. As people co-inhabit the world with these technologies, they need to understand how their algorithms work and to what extent they are able to affect their lives. The film investigates the algorithm as a human creation, questioning its perceived neutrality. Biases in algorithms take several forms and manifest in different ways. The work focuses on biases in training and classification data, how this data is transferred to specific contexts, and the consequences specifically on gender and gender identity. The research found an increasing dependency on algorithms which sort and classify people. This classification is assumed to be objective. The resulting film is a metaphorical extrapolation of the consequences of this assumption, when living with AI-powered devices has become normalised. The production involved designing and building the devices which serve as characters in the film, and which ‘act’ in real-time during the film. The film was written and produced with a full crew during challenging times of the Covid-19 lockdown. Further, the documentation and interviews with participants serve as a companion film about contemporary gender relations. -
Resident Tutor And Postgraduate ResearcherThe University Of Hong Kong Sep 2018 - Aug 2019Thesis Research: Motor CityMotor city is a re-telling of the story of Detroit. The story takes place at abandoned factory in the city of Detroit. The site represents, in some ways the decay the city has experienced since its prosperous automobile industrial age in the 1940s and 50s. It was a time that earned the city the name of ‘Motor City’. Since then the city has fallen into ruin seeing a mass exodus of people over the decades. This coupled with the financial and housing crisis of 2007-2008 has left several of its buildings including iconic cultural and historic landmarks abandoned. The site: The site is an abandoned factory in the city. It used to be a power plant manufacturing jet and car engines. The site is in a state of ruin and materiality manifests as graffiti on the walls as the distinction between architectural and 'digital' materiality of space begins to blur.Digital Materiality: Can we look at graffiti, textures and etching as materials beyond brick and concrete? What do these materials tells us? What stories of inhabitants past, present and future do they hold? Are they culturally relevant artefacts with spatial qualities of their own? The project takes these artefacts and manipulates them as digital materials within a virtual space, to reveal a narrative framework constructed through memories, street art, decay and time. This manipulations is achieved using fractal patterns created using a geometrical construction kit of squares, lines and triangles. The three elements combined with the textures and materials found on site are assembled in differential ways to create the varying programs within the virtual space. -
