I am the Founder & Managing Director of RCube Recycling Private Limited, a startup that is primarily into the recycling of printer cartridge waste. The idea of doing something with the printer cartridge waste originated when my father’s previous company approached a Mumbai based recycler for disposing of our huge junk of used cartridges and the recycler asked for disposing fees for it. After that incident, I along with my brother started researching what happens to the cartridge when we give it for recycling and found the problem which recyclers face. We were already equipped with the knowledge of how the printer cartridge works and about printers as being into printer cartridge industry since our school days, we thought it will be easy for us to understand how we can fix the problem of recycling cartridge. It took to us almost about 1.5 years to understand and form the basic structure of our current recycling process. Till the time we were working on our recycling process when I was in the second year of graduation, there was “Wings-2-Vision – A Business Plan Competition” organized by our institute to promote entrepreneurship in the campus and I found that as an interesting place to scrutinize our partially formed commercial business plan. We won 2nd prize for our plan along with Rs 75000 as a seed fund. Post that we joined the incubation center at our campus. This seed fund helped us a lot to take our research on recycling process to a next level and within 2 months after that, we were able to join all the dots to form a process that can recycle 100% of cartridge waste without any use of incineration process.We started with the beta version of our recycling activity on a small scale when I was in the second year of graduation in May 2018. Post completion of my graduation in Accounting and finance, we have now registered a Private Limited company considering the data and the response acquired by the beta version. We are currently looking to raise funding to scale up our operations to achieve the recycling capacity of 80,000 kg a month.In the beta version, we have recycled more than 550,000 kg of cartridges and are on a mission to recycle 80,000 kg of cartridges a month with the ultimate goal of reducing e-waste in our nation.
