Dr. Rifaat ABDEL-WAHAAB is one of the leading experts in water & wastewater management, with over 25 years of experience, combining both academic and practical applications.His professional competences focus on issues related to wastewater management and strategy. He is actively managing and participating in many of Egypt’s environmental plans : The National Water Quality monitoring network, the Egyptian Environmental sector assessment and the preparation of Egyptian environmental initiatives. Dr. Rifaat has been a project leader for many international and local projects that focus on rural sanitation, water quality management, wastewater reuse, industrial pollution and control, climate change initiative, environmental impact assessment and capacity development. He has also actively chaired international conferences and managed many capacity development workshops and environmental training courses. In 2003, he was awarded the country prestigious prize in environment and development and acknowledged his contribution in diverse areas of environmental initiatives. He has worked extensively as a consultant in donors funded projects and local environmental authorities. Dr. Rifaat has published over 120 refereed research papers in leading environmental journals and he is a reviewer for a wide number of scientific journals. In addition of having an intensive experience with donors funded projects as he has acquired managerial positions and has intensive experience in water and wastewater sector, climate change projects such as (but not limited to) CIDA, Dutch, EU, USAID, UNDP/WB, WHO, UNICEF, European Investment Bank and Tourism Development Authority -Tourist village projects. Dr Rifaat is actually the Head Sector of Research and Development (R&D) at the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater (HCWW), Cairo, Egypt.
