I have over nine years of experience as a legal and policy expert in the creative industries, with a focus on books and music. My mission is to enhance the legal and regulatory framework for the recorded music sector, promote the value of music and its creators, and foster a thriving and diverse music ecosystem. I execute strategic plans across the region, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and advocate for the interests of our members and partners. - Facilitated the Association’s interaction with local, regional and international stakeholders on a range of issues of pertinence to the UAE’s publishing industry.- Key in the development of a Manifesto for the publishing industry in the UAE, which advances a cohesive strategy for addressing the challenges that publishers face in the industry. - Enhanced the legal framework for publishers in the UAE, by facilitating discussions between several stakeholders including the UAE Ministry of Economy to enhance the UAE copyright framework and consulted for the drafting, implementation and enforcement of WIPO related treaties on a national level. - Represented the EPA as part of a working group elected by the Ministry of Economy to establish the Arab world’s first copyright management organization (ERRA - The Emirates Reprographic Rights Management Association).- Founded and headed a legal clinic in the Association to allow publishers to raise national and international contractual issues and avoid litigation through mediation. - Participated in over 6 book fairs per year for 7 years in a row to internationalize and raise awareness of Arabic content and culture and representing the interests of Emirati and Arab publishers through arranging rights exchange programs, participating in panel discussions and conferences in English, Arabic and Spanish to highlight the advancements of the UAE publishing industry and regional copyright legislation.- Active member and EPA representative for the International Publishers Association’s Copyright Committee and Educational Publishers Forum.
