Rawya Rageh is a Senior Crisis Advisor at Amnesty International, tasked with investigating and documenting war crimes and human rights abuses in situations of emergencies. She became AJE's Iraq Reporter in 2010, covering the country's protracted political deadlock and the withdrawal of U.S. forces.Rageh covered the conflict in Sudan's Darfur region for both AP and AJE. She produced a rare sit-down interview with embattled President Omar al Bashir. She was the first AP newswoman to cover the annual pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. Rageh also reported from American military bases in Qatar and Bahrain, including the end of combat speech by President George Bush at Camp As Sayliyah.In 2013, she covered Syria's war from the Turkish border. Subsequently, she focused on Sub Saharan Africa, working on enterprise stories and breaking news primarily out of Kenya and Nigeria.Rageh's coverage of Egypt's revolt was listed by Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism as one of "100 Great Stories" by its alumni in the past 100 years. She was named by Forbes Middle East as one of 100 Arab characters with the most presence on Twitter and listed by the Washington Post among "23 accounts you must follow to understand Egypt." Rageh’s coverage of Egypt was part of the work that landed AJE awards in 2011-2012, including the Royal Television Society Channel of the Year, the Peabody Award for “enterprising and brave coverage” of the Arab Awakening, as well as the Columbia Journalism Award.
