Mr. Carmichael’s public service includes a period as a field crop specialist with the Plant Industry Branch, New Brunswick Department of Agriculture and Crop Supervisor for the Prince Edward Island Department of Agriculture responsible for supervising crop extension specialists, development and implementation of Departmental programs to support production of all crop commodities and as the provincial director for the Canadian Horticultural Council and Canadian Seed Growers Association.Since 1986 Mr. Carmichael has owned and operated Atlantic Agri-Food Associates Inc. providing professional consulting services to agri-food value chain stakeholders in areas of business planning and development, information management, food safety and security, and financing. Atlantic Agri-Food Associates has completed a Newfoundland Dairy Enterprise Study, a Broad Review of the Agriculture Industry in Atlantic Canada and an Atlantic Agroforestry Review for Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and developed a series of electronic on-farm food safety workbooks for the Canadian Horticultural Council. Mr. Carmichael is also sole owner of CropSmart Canada Inc. a crop consulting business specializing in geo-referenced (Precision Farming) crop management services for potatoes and rotational crops in Atlantic Canada.
