Starting in this position, I learned the in depth knowledge of all types of valves and valve control systems our company works on. I also spent 1-2 weeks in each department of our company to learn and practice each step of our modification process in order to understand each step that the valve goes through once it is received into our shop. This has been highly beneficial in my later responsibilities as I am able to understand the full scale of our business and what each modification requires for completion. My first project was to organize and streamline our creation of couplings and mounting brackets for bevel gear installations on quarter turn valves. In this I made drawings of specific couplings and brackets in order to retain that knowledge for future modifications in order to reduce the redundancy of re-creating what we have already accomplished on previous orders. Later my responsibilities have shifted to introducing CAD/CAM functions into our drafting/engineering department. Using Fusion 360, we are able to create drawings and renderings of our parts more efficiently and effectively. My roll was to teach this CAD/CAM software to our drafting and engineering departments in order for them to use it effectively. Recently we purchased a new HAAS ST-28L CNC Lathe. My roll in this machine's entry to our workforce was to learn the machine and how to run it in order to teach our Mazak CNC operators on the new control system. This machine also allowed me to practice and teach our engineering department how to take our CAD models and make the NC code through the CAM function of fusion to create the machining cycle on the computer for efficiently than programming at the machine itself. My future goals for this integration of technology is to be able to generate the NC code for the CNC machines from the computer and attach it to the workorder for our machinists to use to efficiently machine the part and move it to the next stage of our fabrication process.
