As a fisherman and whale watcher I have worked with, in and around the weather all my life. Safety is of utmost importance when dealing with the ocean and passengers, which is why I am highly trained in both passenger and fishing safety. I have over twenty-five years of experience in both tourism and fishing and have experienced many changes, patterns and trends in both industries.In the off season, I spend a great deal of time volunteering in community economic development. In particular, as Chair of the Seawall Trail society, I help develop the Jajiktek Seawall Trail: a hut-to-hut, multi-day trail in Northern Cape Breton. Prior to this, I was happy to work directly with local businesses and was part of several marketing initiatives that helped develop websites for over fifty businesses in 2001, and a regional tourism website in 2000.Im my spare time I train Karate, volunteer at the local museum, help kids learn to ski. and write the odd short story, one of which that was published.My education at Dalhousie University helped me develop the necessary critical thinking skills, which I apply in all aspects of my life. Though I finished my post-secondary education in Halifax, it started in Newfoundland at Memorial University where I learned humility, and many skills at Barnes House.

  Fishing operations include lobster and crab. Pre-season there is a great deal of minutiae including prepping both the boat (engine/hull/gear), and the gear (traps/rope/hauler) for the fishing season. Fishing is a seven days a week operation during all types of weather. After fishing, the operation changes and to guided tours out of Bay St. Lawrence. During fishing I act as First Mate, while for tourism season I work both on shore as Office Manager, and at sea as Captain. Office duties, include, website maintenance/development, signage development, janitorial duties, accounting, bookings, marketing, and social media management. Captain duties include maintenance, piloting, passenger safety, finding whales and guiding.
