Georgetown County is often referred to as a true coastal treasure because of its rich history, beautiful scenery and old-fashioned Southern hospitality. Georgetown County introduces another true coastal treasure; the Georgetown County Public Services Dept. of which I am blessed to be Director of. I represents traditional values of personal integrity, respect for others, dependability and support of the community. These characteristics coupled with progressive ideas have enabled me to create and sustain an appealing quality of life in his small rural community. After graduating from Savannah State University I moved to the bustling metropolis of Atlanta, Georgia where I spent a decade gaining valuable hands-on experience in capital project management, architectural design & strategic planning. In the 1990’s I returned home as a plans examiner for Georgetown County. My cooperative spirit & team approach to problem solving resulted in a promotion to Public Works Director in only two years. I rapidly developed a reputation for my willingness to tackle new challenges with the same dedication & enthusiasm and by 2002 I was named Director of Public Services for Georgetown County fulfilling one of my life goals. In this new management position I was responsible for Public Works, Recreation and Leisure activities, Parks and Airports working with an annual budget over $12 million, $10.4 million in capital assets & serving more than 60,000 citizens. Strong emphasis on partnerships has put the spotlight on Georgetown County winning the coveted National Civic League’s All-America County Award and twice snagging the prestigious J. Mitchell Graham Memorial. These combined with my own achievement winning the APWA Technology award for implementation of an automated service system in Georgetown County Public Services Department demonstrate the power of government and citizens working together successfully to resolve critical area issues.
