I have been a teacher since 1982, rising from middle leadership to senior leadership. I was Deputy Head at Batley Girls’ High School, National Co-ordinator for Applied Learning for the ssat before becoming Principal of Minsthorpe Community College. The college was a large comprehensive of over 1500 students and served an area of significant disadvantage. Under my leadership the college secured two back-to-back ‘good’ judgments by Ofsted and I led a massive restructuring programme that turned a projected £900,000 financial deficit into an £800,000 financial surplus over a period of 5 years. I viewed myself as one of the new breed of ‘Headtrepreneurs’ who were constantly scanning the horizon for ways to raise funds for education and to make the delivery of educational services more efficient. In my 5 years as Principal of Minsthorpe I raised millions of pounds in extra funding from external agencies that were used to renovate the school estate and extend the educational provision that we offered. I have had enormous experience in school improvement and raising money to fund school improvement strategies.I retired from this position in April 2019 and formed a company called Fund£d Limited and my goal is now to find funding to allow schools to continue to provide quality services in a time of severe funding shortages. I am currently working as the Strategic Lead for the Encompass Careers Alliance, a collaborative partnership of 30 schools in Yorkshire, whose mission is to provide 1-2-1 quality CEG interviews for young people, delivered by trained Careers Advisors. Details of our work can be found here- http://encompass.careers/encompass-careers-alliance/For 15 months I was the Education Consultant for the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership’s SEND Careers Hub where I supported the work of the LEP to create a collaborative partnership of 29 schools and colleges in the Leeds City Region to improve the employability prospects of young people with special needs and disabilities by enhancing the quality of the careers education and guidance they receive.I can bring a wealth of experience to schools and colleges who are seeking to find (and bid for) extra funding to enhance the quality of their educational provision. I have a proven track record of successful fundraising and am able to work with schools and colleges to understand what they need and then source and write a bid to secure the funding to make it happen.
