During my Police career I was in charge of the Police Dog Section and was a Qualified Home Office Instructor for Police Dogs. I later spent three years as the Policing Liaison Inspector for the three Merseyside Clubs Everton, Liverpool and Tranmere FC. During this period I was part of the team who organized the Euro 96 Championship Games. My final three years service saw me take on the role of planning officer for the Aintree Grand National 1998 - 2000. Following the terrorist threat to the race in 1997 I was required to re-write the Policing plan for the course which has stood the test of time.Following my retirement in July 2000 I became the Safety Officer at the JJB Stadium, Wigan now re-branded the DW Sports Stadium. I worked closely with a number of partners Greater Manchester Police and Wigan Council Officers in particular. I wrote the Safety and Evacuation procedures for the Stadium along with numerous Risk Assessments. I was responsible on a match-day for over 300 employees. During my Police Service I attended numerous courses including the MODACE (Management of Disasters and Civil Emergencies) at the Police College Bramshill. I also gave presentations at the Police College in Wakefield regarding the Aintree Operation and to various Football Courses for Ground Commanders in Greater Manchester.In 2012 I retired from the DW Stadium having spent a very enjoyable twelve years there overseeing a Super League Rugby Football Club (Wigan Warriors) and a Premier League Football Club (Wigan Athletic).
