Ray Long left the UK Civil Service in 2017 after a 40-year career which included roles as Director of Business Tax Change and Corporate Services Change in HM Revenue & Customs, Senior Responsible Owner of the Department for Work & Pensions Infrastructure Modernisation Programme, and CEO and Accounting Officer of Benefits & Pensions Digital Technology Services Limited (the Government-owned private company which provided digital services to DWP). Ray previously served as Major Projects Director in HM Treasury’s Office of Government Commerce and the Cabinet Office, Programme Director for the nationwide NHS ‘Choose and Book’ service, and CEO and Accounting Officer of the Northern Ireland Business Development Service. A Past-President (2016-17) of the British Computer Society (the UK’s Chartered Institute for IT), Past-Master (2019-20) of the Information Technologists’ City of London Livery Company, graduate of the Government’s Major Projects Leadership Academy, Cabinet Office High-Risk Review Team Leader, Civil Service Fast-Stream Assessor and Council Member of Gresham College (London’s oldest Higher Education Institution), Ray now runs his own company, Ray Long Consulting Limited, and enjoys a portfolio career based around short-term consultancy, non-executive, teaching and voluntary work. He holds a number of associate positions and has extensive experience as a professional educator, having been an Associate Lecturer with the Open University since 1993, presenting courses on leadership, strategy, finance, marketing, project management and technological innovation.
