About Ray Low
Ray has over a decade of experience at two of Australia’s top materials engineering consultancies. After attaining his PhD from the University of Queensland in 2011, Ray began working for GHD’s Materials Technology and Asset Management Group where he gained experience in condition assessment, remediation design and durability planning. In 2014, Ray became a member of UQ Materials Performance where he expanded his skills in the areas of failure analysis, corrosion investigations, materials characterisation and testing, coatings and plastics failures and product life-cycle analysis. Ray is a versatile materials engineer who has contributed to a broad range of small to large projects, site inspections and expert witness assignments. He has worked successfully both a team-environment as well as independently. In 2020, Ray became a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).

Ray also provided materials engineering advice for other disciplines across GHD.• Planned and undertook numerous condition assessments and remediation planning of civil structures including bridges, reservoirs, dams, marine structures, pipelines, road structures, drainage, sewerage structures and buildings.• Gained experience in field testing including, ultrasonic thickness testing, ground penetrating radar, concrete sampling, coating thickness measurements, durometer hardness testing, Wenner resistivity testing, Bresle testing, surface profile testing and others.• Provided inputs into materials selection and durability design for various small and large projects including the Cooroy to Curra Bruce Highway Upgrade, Arrow Energy LNG Marine Facilities, Moreton Bay Rail Link and QCLNG Pipelines.• Prepared numerous technical reports, specifications, tender documents and cost-estimates for various clients including government and private asset owners. • Fulfilled the role of job manager to successfully scope, cost and deliver small projects (< 30K). The job management role included cost control, quality management, client communication, risk management as well as forecasting and invoicing.• Attained various safety permits and access qualifications (listed below) to meet requirements for conducting high risk inspections.• Fulfilled the role of business group representative on the Health, Safety and Environment committee.
