The S3 has staff responsibility for planning the operations, organization, and training as directed by the commander. The S3 works closely with the XO to accomplish his or her mission. The S3 writes operational directives and plans and writes tactical orders, field training exercises, and training schedules. The S3 prepares courses of action and recommends actions or decisions to the regiment commander for the accomplishment of the mission.As the S3 is concerned with planning, training, control, and supervision of operations, his or her duties include:Plans, controls, and executes mission operations from regiment through battalion level.Prepares detailed plans which support execution of policies and strategy.Establishes policies and standards for unit readiness and supervises unit efforts to meet readiness standards.Establishes the composition of forces required to support plans.Prepares and reviews operations and concept plans to include simulation exercises.Establishes and monitors policy and standards for unit readiness

Sustainment Chief for the 2503rd Digital Liaison Detachment assigned to the Headquarters, Eighth Army, a Field Army Headquarters, within the Republic of Korea. Responsibilities include providing trained and ready Logistics, Medical and Human Resource Liaison officers, staff advisors, and the Korean Augmentation to the US Army (KATUSA) Soldiers in support of the Republic of Korea's (ROK) Army Forces Headquarter, a Combined Forces Ground Component Command (CFGCC) composed of a 600,000 ROK Soldiers. Provide subject matter expects and operational procedures on all aspects of the Sustainment War-Fighting Functions and liaison network operations between Eighth Army and the CFGCC during armistice, training exercises, crisis, and contingency operations. Support the CFGCC by serving as the senior US Army Sustainment Officer on site with the CGFCC, and the ROK Army's Ground Operation Coordination Team (GOCT).

Principle staff assistant to the commander on all logistics matters, has overall responsibility for the logistics readiness of the Brigade and support elements. Reports to the Brigade Commander, through the Deputy Brigade Commander.Advises the commander and the deputy on all logistics matters, to other staff members and subordinate unit personnel. Develops logistical policies and guidance for the Brigade. Coordinates logistical policies and procedures with higher, adjacent, and subordinate units. Plans, conducts and evaluates logistics, conferences, training, and briefings. Develops logistical contingency plans for the Brigade. Monitors and evaluates the logistics readiness of the 4 Civil Affairs Battalions and the Brigade Headquarters Company. Prepares logistical input for the Command Operating Budget. Monitors and enforces the brigade commander's command supply discipline program and Financial Liability Investigation of Property Loss (FLIPL). Works with subordinate units to insure property accountability.
