Reporting to the Chief of Communications, I was a Unit Manager responsible for managing the satellite network unit UNLB operating in excess of 120 independent satellite links used for voice, video and data services. My duties involved frequency planning, allocation as well as transponder planning and link budgeting for the 10 satellite transponders in support of global peace keeping operations. My team also prepared and tested equipment of mission critical strategic deployment communication hardware and coordination of network support services for both military and civilian requirements on the converged network.Selected Achievements: ➢ Special Project: Developed and operated the satellite segment of the UNLB which had an annual budget of 12 million dollars in satellite unit resources. It also included a year on year budget of over 200 thousand dollars of hardware and software development budget. ➢ Staff development & management: Effectively managed a team comprising 10 engineers. ➢ Contributions towards technological expansion:o Built an IP/Satellite development lab; successfully trialled several projects including migration from serial to IP protocol which lead to all UNLB links to a shift from serial to IP hardware in all peace keeping missions. The hardware I was responsible for identifying, specifying and testing became the de facto standard hardware for the DPKO missions globally. This involved work the IP sniffers, Satellite simulators, BER testers protocol analysis of layers 2 to 4 mainlyo I wrote the RFPs for hub and station upgrade to full IP over Satellite network improvements and also performed technical reviews of RFP bids.o Managed the migration from TWTA to SSPA systems for all the UNLB HPA systems to optimise transmission capability increasing power capacity in all systems by 2 fold. Completed a deployment on modulation schemes which also saw a 25% increase in throughput.

This action corrected the statistical throughput data of the network for the first time. My design included STP applied over a multivlan environment with traffic statics collection• My implementation also ensured that all network data would control remote to remote traffic by creating a logical star network for all traffic across the network which, had never been fully implemented up until that point.• Extended the routing of the CTBTO network from partial static to full Dynamic routing protocols across CTBTO network using BGP, OSPF, RIPv2, EIGRP, HSRP, and VRRP The implementation enhanced the operation of link failure recovery and cut convergence time to a minimum• I was primarily responsible for second and third tier network troubleshooting for all matters relating to the CTBTO network
