The ABTC trains RAF, Army and Navy individuals and teams in the conduct of current and future warfare using a cutting-edge synthetic environment. The trainees receive high quality training to prepare for combat in a setting that cannot be replicated in the live environment. As well as in-house events, the system links to simulation centres across the world to provide training with coalition partners. Simulation is a growing business and investment in the technology to provide first class combat training is accelerating fast.Responsibilities include maintenance of current capability, policy, requirements capture, acceptance and test, funding bids, HR, project management and contractor liaison.

North Luffenham

JAPPLE (see previous job) was awarded a Battery title and I became the 1st RAF Officer to Command an Army Royal Artillery Battery; especially prestigious as 49 Battery holds a VC from the Crimea. The established manning was in excess of 100 personnel and the main effort was bringing the LEAPP Radar and data link programme into Service on behalf of the Army and providing communications services to forces in combat roles overseas. Great fun, great people, great job.

Joint Air Picture Provision for the Land Environment.A Unit of 57 Army and RAF personnel based at North Luffenham with 16 Regt, Royal Artillery.We provide Link 16, Link 11 and other comm services to the Army in operational locations.

A brief period at the CRC and as Executive Officer.

Planning the utilisation of the UK's AWACS fleet. Scheduling operational deployments and exercises worldwide. Contingency planning and crisis management. Liaison with NATO and US agencies to ensure cooperative and efficient Force management. Management of flight test and development of new capability (software and hardware).

Worked on the EAGLE programme to replace the computer system in the rear of the Sentry E-3D. Created the User Requirements and System Requirements. Worked closley with competing bidders to get the best system for Defence rather than something we would later regret!Also worked on Radar and IFF systems enhancements and the communications upgrade.

Oklahoma City

I was the RAF Exchange Officer working on the USAF's E-3 fleet at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. Role was in Wing Tactics optimising how the systems were used to best effect and developing new ways of working with other agencies to find better ways of succeeding in combat. This included flight test and requirements management. Deployed with the USAF to various locations across the world in support of military objectives.Great times.
