Providing heritage conservation advice to a range of clients, particularly in relation to the operation of heritage legislation in Queensland and Victoria, and conservation processes. I have provided extensive advice to Queensland Railways, on the management and conservation of its heritage assets, and prepared applications under the provisions of the State Planning and Heritage Acts. I have also provided advice to the Queensland Museum, the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Victorian State Government, and private clients. I am a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (UK), the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (UK) and Australian ICOMOS.

This position was responsible for managing the operational area of Heritage Victoria. This included a team assessing the nomination of places to the Victorian Heritage Register; a team assessing heritage permit and consent applications for works to places or objects on the Victorian Heritage Register, and archaeological sites, and any enforcement in relation to these permits and consents; a Maritime Archaeology team, and the site registrar and heritage data team. In addition to managing these teams, I dealt with major development projects in Melbourne, including the Kew Cottages site, The Myer store development, Windsor Hotel, Goods Shed No 2, Docklands, Convention Centre, Hammer Hall, 171 Collins Street, Scots Church development, Wesley Church development, and many other projects.

As the Manager, Historic Section, I was responsible for managing two teams, one assessing places for the Queensland State Register, and the other assessing development applications for works to places on the Heritage Register. The position involved close working with the Queensland Heritage Council and its Development Control Committee, preparing briefings, speeches, and media releases for the Minister, and also Cabinet Submissions, including the appointment of members of the Heritage Council, and amendments to legislation. I dealt with a wide range of major development applications throughout Queensland.

Providing advice on all listed building applications, assessing places for potential entry on the list of buildings of historical and architectural interest, assessing grants applications for conservation works, providing conservation advice for a range of building dating from 1100 to 1920, which were predominately timber framed. I was a member of the East of England Committee of the Association of Conservation Officers, now Institute of Historic Building Conservation. (IHBC) I was also a member and chair of the Essex Historic Buildings Group. During this period I obtained a post graduate diploma in historic building conservation from the Architectural Association, London. My 2nd year thesis was on the historic development of Cast Iron Windows 1791-1914.
