Started the program with a couple other teachers in 2009. The program now has nearly 200 students and is growing. My job duties are officially as science teacher of record and technology coordinator, but I help out tremendously in all the state reporting and seat time waiver reports that need to be filed each year.

Instructor for the Project HOPE night school program. The aim of the program is to provide students aged 17-19, who can no longer mathematically graduate with a diploma, an opportunity for credit recovery through accelerated studies. Students accepted into HOPE have had serious behavior and academic struggles in the past. The program has been very successful, typically graduating 20-35 graduates annually.

High School Science Teacher at TA Wilson Academy in Jackson, MI. Students are at-risk and we work to develop them not just academically but prepare them for a successful life. I have taught nearly every science, from core classes to electives. In addition to my teaching responsibilities I am the MME testing site supervisor, active on the School Improvement Committee, and Teacher in Charge when the principal is away. I have been district Teacher of the Year and building ‘power of one’ numerous times.

Instructor at the Jackson County Jail. Incarcerated students were able to partner with Jackson Public Schools to earn credits that could be used toward finishing their High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Adjunct Instructor at Jackson College, teaching Freshman Year Seminar. The purpose of the class is to teach freshman the basics of the college experience in the hopes of increasing their academic success potential.

In the early summer of 2005 I took part in Leg 1 of the Healy-Oden Trans Arctic Expedition aboard the United States Coast Guard Icebreaker Healy where we reached the North Pole. Arctic Ocean sediment samples were taken recording climatological data from the early Holocene to the present. My duties aboard the Icebreaker included operating and maintaining multibeam sonar equipment, taking plankton density measurements, taking ice samples aboard Coast Guard helicopters, and assisting as a marine tech on deck. Following the expedition, I constructed an online database consolidating all scientific and shipboard data that is made available to scientific communities around the world. During the late summer of 2005 I assisted the University of Minnesota with the testing of a new sonar system in which they developed in western Lake Superior, developing my skills and knowledge of sonar equipment, CTD’s and Triaxus surveys aboard the R/V Blue Heron. In addition, work was completed for the Minnesota DNR examining fish population densities along the shore of Duluth.
