Thomasson left Shell as Chief Geologist, was President and CEO of Spectrum Oil and Gas, Inc., and of Pend Oreille Oil and Gas, Inc. In 1991, he founded Thomasson Partner Associates, Inc. (TPA), a firm that generates and promotes high-potential exploration projects and plays to industry.TPA has turned approximately 120 projects to industry on which companies have invested over $1 billion, have proved 51 MMBO and 929 BDFG. Proven undeveloped ranges from 55 – 322 MMBO, and probable gas is +/- 500 BCFG. Based on proven reserves of 1,235 BCFGE or 206 MMBOE (@6 MCF/BO), and total estimated expenditures on all projects of over $1B. The estimated finding and development cost is 1000/1235 = $0.81/MCFGE or 1000/206 = $4.85 MMBOE to date.With the AAPG he has worked on 14 committees (chairing 5), created and was the first editor of The Geologic Column for the Leading Edge (SEG) and The Geophysical Corner for the Explorer (AAPG) and was a Distinguished Lecturer for AAPG. He served as President (1999-2000), most recently he was Vice Chair of the AAPG Foundation. He is an Honorary Member and received the Halbouty Medal, AAPG’s highest award for service.Thomasson has served in a number of leadership roles for the American Geosciences Institute (AGI), including the first chair of the AGI Foundation, and as AGI President in 2003. He has been instrumental in the development of a number of AGI outreach activities, including the “Faces of Earth” TV series, which was produced in cooperation with The Science Channel. He is the recipient of AGI awards, including the William P. Heroy Award. He is a fellow of the Geological Society of America and the Geological Society of London.Thomasson has received Distinguished Alumni Awards from the University of Missouri and from the University of Wisconsin’s Geoscience Department.Thomasson obtain B.A. and M.S. degrees from Missouri University and a Ph.D. from Wisconsin University.
