Inaugural director, responsible for effectively administering and implementing Cougs Rise – a student success initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Education to Washington State University, focused on supporting college transition and retention of low-income and first-generation students from across the state. Charged with carrying out the mission and strategic plan of the institution through the development and implementation of Academic Year and Summer Program STEM, Liberal Arts, & Social Studies curriculum and services, resource allocation, communications, project development, compliance, & evaluation. Develop an integrative advising approach: class selection, career planning, financial, mental health and overall college transition for participants. Supervise 3 professional staff members, 11 peer mentors, 1 Summer Research Assistant and 8 Summer Program teaching faculty. Manage an annual budget in excess of $800,000.

Responsible for establishing and implementing strategies to increase student participation, retention and academic success for Migrant Seasonal Farmworker students during their freshman year at Washington State University. Responsible for providing leadership, direction, planning, developing, managing, administration and strategies for the program; coordinate the delivery and evaluation of program services to ensure progress and compliance in the area of student retention and graduation of program participants; establish and implement short and long-range organizational goals and objectives; represents the university to internal and external constituents; support the Division of Student Affairs and the University strategic plan; utilize working knowledge of policies, principles and procedures of federal regulations outlined in the CAMP grant under the U.S. Department of Education; lead support staff.

Provide services directly to students such as personal and disciplinary counseling and developmental, cultural, and educational programming. Coordinate administrative operations. Responsible for the planning and implementation of a bilingual orientation session for Spanish-speaking parents. Directed a 10 member committee in the recruitment and marketing of the orientation session. Developed presentation materials regarding campus resources, transitional issues for first-generation students and financial aid information. Provided academic and career assistance, helped students develop and academic plan that informed their career planning. Provided information regarding transfer courses and general admission information. Assisted in the supervision of approximately 40 orientation counselors and provided general orientation program support.

Supported the academic and developmental mission of the University by facilitating a cooperative, considerate group living environment and promoted learning in the floor and hall community. Promoted and enforced standards for appropriate behavior in individuals and in floor communities. Developed a sense of community by initiating and implementing social and educational activities and programs.
