About Rayane Bezerra
I'm an undergraduate student in Biological Sciences with emphasis on Biotechnology and Health at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). In addition to my academic studies, I'm conducting scientific research at the Polar Microbiology and Tropical Connections Laboratory, focusing on fungi in Antarctic lake sediments with potential for biosurfactant and herbicidal activities. Previously, I had the opportunity to intern at the Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy (MNEXT) in the Netherlands. During this internship, I contributed to two projects: in the first one, I was involved in the production and extraction of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA); in the second one, I worked with samples of natural pigments produced by fungi for the analysis of their biodegradability. Furthermore, this experience allowed me to immerse myself in the English language.Additionally, I conducted Scientific Initiation at the René Rachou Institute (Fiocruz Minas) focusing on the analysis of protein data from the protozoan Leishmania infantum to contribute to developing a drug against leishmaniasis. In the Virology Laboratory, I had my first professional experience working with neurotropic viruses such as dengue and yellow fever.
