My experience in education goes all the way back to high school. As soon as I discovered my gift for mathematics, I was helping my classmates with their work. My enjoyment of teaching math led me to several tutoring jobs during my years as an undergraduate, both at the high school and college level. I also built my own tutoring business on the side. The business peaked when I was 22 with enough clients to cover my cost of living. At the age of 24, I taught one semester of high school freshman algebra. This was a great experience, and it gave me the motivation to get a master's degree. At the age of 28, I taught one semester of college algebra. The job ended upon the completion of my M.A. I currently enjoy the flexibility of a high school substitute teacher. Other than developing my ability to communicate mathematical concepts, the above experiences have taught me classroom management, lesson planning, and problem writing. I have been stretched to find different ways to explain the same topic. I have learned to keep my board work clean, labeled, organized, and color-coded during the lecture. I have discovered the importance of preparation and lecture notes. Lastly, I would like to bring attention to my proficiency in Desmos. For those unfamiliar, it is a graphing software that can be found at desmos.com. I am able to create interactive graphs and animations on Desmos for most mathematical concepts. My best graphs thus far include an animation of the complex logarithm, interactive graphs demonstrating inverse functions, and visualizations of the epsilon-delta definition of a limit. I consistently grow this skill.
