Vassar College

Vassar’s anthropology program provided archaeological services to the National Park Service properties in nearby Hyde Park. During the summer of 2017, our team of archaeology students excavated several locations at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt for evidence of human activity. I mapped the sites, 3D scanned the area, and photographed artifacts. I created charts and graphs necessary to interpret artifacts and date site layers, and edited report-quality images. We explored three sites, including a bottle dump. During the academic year 2018-2019, I continued on this project to make maps and work on the official report.

I worked under Professor Kirsten Menking in a paleoclimate study of Dyken Pond on the Rennsselaer plateau in New York. In order to learn about the local climate, we studied pollen, diatoms, organic matter, and plant macrofossils in a 5.5-m-long sediment core taken in spring of 2018. I studied plant macrofossils under Dorothy Peteet. We presented our research at the Undergraduate Research Summer Institute in summer of 2018, and at the American Geophysical Union Fall Conference in Washington D.C. in December of 2018.
