A client once described me as a Professional Listener, however upon recounting this to my wife and daughter I got the impression it was not necessarily a widely held belief. What I am is a VISUAL STORYTELLER. I have been lucky enough to have done this for the past 23 years across 22 countries. In between Graphic Recording jobs I’ve fallen in the occasional crevasse, broken my nose in the occasional bank and from time to time, been shot at…Over the years the ancient power of Story temporarily lost its way a little. However, as it turns out, people are people and we are all hardwired to gravitate towards a great narrative. We engage with it. We remember it. We engage and remember even more if it is told in a super interesting visual way. I work with clients to in two main ways. One: You say it, I draw it. That is, I sit in on a conference, workshop or meeting and draw what I hear in real time. I don’t capture word for word, as that would be silly. I look for themes and capture the essence of what is said in the room. That might be a key note presenter or a panel discussion. Either way, that important message you wanted to tell now lives on. Participants will have a meaningful memento of the event to reflect upon. They can use it as an aide memoir to share their learnings with others. You can your post it on your socials. Your content will now live on far beyond the immediacy of the conference.Two: I take your narrative, we work on it together and create a memorable visual that you can then share with your intended audience. For example, you have meticulously crafted you Mission, Vision and Values. But they are quite long and no-one can remember them. A fun visual representation of those Values up on the wall of the office reinforces your message every time someone walks past it. You have toiled over the perfect 5 year Strategic Plan for your business (it used to be 10 year plan). Alas it is in a black and white 15 page document in the second draw down of the filing cabinet in the room at the end of the hall. Who’s going to see it? Let’s create an exciting Strategic Illustration that can be SEEN AND DISCUSSED BY ALL. Share your message story in a way that people will WANT to look at it… Creating the strategy is one thing, getting people to buy into it is another.That’s what I do. Although saying all that, the absolute MOST IMPORTANT thing I do is being a Dad.
