We are dedicated to improving literacy to America's youth with an emphasis on under served young children and teens and free preventative health care. A healthy mind needs a healthy body. CBC, Children's Book Club, is an initiative we started as a pilot program in Franklin and is now a full time program at both the Milford and Franklin Massachusetts Libraries. Children can pick from multiple clubs with their favorite books from Dr. Seuss to Harry Potter. Children are grouped together with readers of similar levels. Some clubs we read to them, some they read to us. The idea is to make reading something they WANT to do. Summer Reading and STEM Program - All students experience learning loss over summer vacation; however low-income students lose more than two months in reading achievement while their middle-class peers maintain or improve reading achievement. Limited access to educational activities over summer break is one cause of the achievement gap. Another is access to nutritional meals.In a single program we feed the body and the mind. We provide these children a unique opportunity to maintain reading and math skills over the summer along with a reliable healthy meal. We also have just introduced a STEM component.
