About Ray Freiwirth

Raphael (Ray) Freiwirth is founder and CEO of The Commons XR ("TCXR"), creating immersive 3D experiences and using AI to provide individualized behavioral analytics for health and educational environments. The goal is to identify those kids that need help earlier, in a safe and open environment. Most kids are not willing to speak up, not even to their parents. Ray is also deeply involved with the San Diego startup community. He is or has been a mentor (Miramar REC, UCSD Basement, SDSU Lavin Center, SCORE San Diego, USC MEPC cohort, and other colleges), a Startup San Diego cheerleader and an Angel Investor (San Diego NuFund Venture Group) leading due diligence with seed deals. Ray brings a wealth of knowledge of the startup community, understanding startup life, processes and environments needed from ideation to seed stage. He is an expert in the implementation of business strategy based on IP, from his 12yr experience as in-house patent counsel for Qualcomm. He has a very diverse background in software engineering rising from computer engineer to directing worldwide rollout of infrastructure at Citicorp & Time-Warner, where he later transitioned to acting CISO (while at law school). He was also AIPLA’s Emerging Tech committee vice-chair and the Artificial Intelligence sub-committee co-chair.

The Commons XR ("TCXR") is creating a EdTech platform that can incorporate DEI policies into our tool for instructors to improve engagement and lessen inherent bias, thereby increasing diversity of voice in the classroom by creating a safer zone for discussion. Our role is to allow teachers to teach in the way they want to, thereby using our technology as a tool for their pedagogy, not the other way around. TCXR is specifically designed to conduct and administer portions of in person, online or hybrid classes in an immersive environment (whether on a headset, laptop or phone) with AI capabilities, enabling educators to see in real-time how well their students are engaging in a lesson. All this is done and identifying at risk students while maintaining student data securely, thereby having the ability to improve retention numbers and revenue flow to educational institutions. TCXR is committed to maintaining student data privacy, the platform being developed as a subscription and licensing model, with no data sales anticipated. Our team has industry experience, is consensus driven and all fundamentally believe that our teachers need better observational tools as classes get bigger and requirements for combined online and in person (hybrid) teaching becomes standard.
