PeriShip provides a unique service to purveyors of fresh, perishable food products. Working exclusively with FedEx, PeriShip manages the overnight delivery of these products, ensuring timely delivery and resolving any transit related issues. I designed the IT systems, interfaces, databases and application software to track and manage the movement of perishable food shipments transiting the FedEx network, greatly reducing transit problems, product claims and administrative overhead, worked with senior level FedEx IT staff to design and implement unique real time integration between PeriShip’s servers and the FedEx servers, providing real time tracking information and unique high level visibility into the cold supply chain.
An Internet exchange serving business to business and business to consumer markets of high end gourmet and specialty food products. Recognized by Forbes Magazine in their “Best of the Web” in their July 2000 issue. I developed and implemented database systems, application software, website functionality and user interfaces for proof of concept and initial “pre-launch” systems that resulted in securing $16 million in initial and secondary venture capital funding rounds, coordinated the efforts of 26 developers team in the development and deployment of the ‘exchange’ using the NeuVis Internet Rapid Application Development technology (later acquired by IBM), and grew the company to over $1,000,000 in monthly sales in less than two years.
APS pioneered the use of automated payment collection technology at Utility agency locations, creating a new paradigm for processing utility payments in face to face transactions at various agency locations. The APS system replaced a 100 year old manual process, reducing turn-around time on customer payment processing and funds transfer from 10 days to 48 hours while reducing administrative costs associated with reconciliation issues and virtually eliminating fraud and theft. I was responsible for all IT development, and grew the business from an initial proof of concept network serving 12 company cashier locations to a network of 4,000+ agents in 40 states serving 75 of the country’s largest utility companies, processing over $8 billion transactions per year. APS was sold to CheckFree Corporation in 2003 for $129 million.
