The international operations were set up from scratch. Some involved partnering with local companies, while others involved registration of local entities. To achieve targeted results, strong sales efforts, very close and rigorous management of the local offices and creative marketing strategies are key. The new markets have generated healthy profits with the brand being strongly established. This included a year stint in Malaysia in 2008/09 to expand the Asian markets more aggressively.

My main role entailed arranging logistics and shipment of industrial salt to international clients in Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Philippines and China for the production of food salt and chemicals. Other tasks included customer relationship management, pricing, documentation, process improvements, forecasting and monitoring stocks. Whilst in this role, I represented the marketing team in the company’s Safety Committee, visited the site in the North West of WA on a regular basis, and attended several development courses.

I undertook a Management Trainee program being rotated through various departments in Singapore and USA over a period of 4 years to gain a good understanding of the different business units within the organisation. Starting off in the Operations (Liner Trade) department, I was then rotated around several sections (i.e. vessel planning, transshipment and documentation) which gave me an excellent foundation of shipping. In my next role as a Shipbroker, I handled chartering as well as post-fixture matters in Maersk Broker, a subsidiary of Maersk. The main achievement was in concluding several substantial fixtures bringing in healthy commissions despite the weak market. I also managed to source new clients and strengthen existing client relationships. Next, I was expatriated to USA to the Strategic Marketing department. As a Senior Marketing Analyst, I mainly carried out detailed market analysis and forecasting which were used in management reporting and in the budget process. I Graduated the Maersk International Shipping Education (MISE) diploma within the top 5% globally in a cohort of over 300 trainees.

Singapore

In this key role, I was in charge of planning and supervision of 2 precasting yards, including coordination with site works for the main contractors in a semi-expressway project. Coordinated and liased with our client, LTA Singapore, as well as our consultants (VSL Singapore, T.Y.Lin S.E. Asia, AGS Consultants) and contractors (L&M Singapore, BBR Geotechnics, Hanson). I was involved in Piling, Launching (Balanced-Cantilever method) and Precasting (Segmental & Crossheads) works. Major achievements include improved rate and quality of pre-cast segment production, and improved work flows. Major strengths developed include multi-tasking, strong interpersonal & communication skills, working well in teams and working under pressure.
