• Collaborated with SRI International to identify opportunities for artificial intelligence applications within biology education.• Conducted contextual research with biology teachers and students over a four month period and discovered key elements to engage biology students.• Led research, synthesis, and evaluation. Collaboratively generated prototypes ranging from low fidelity sketches to high fidelity applications.• Ultimately designed a novel platform to encourage biology students to think critically.

As an intern working alongside the CWO director and project manager, I was involved in the redesign and content migration of various department websites. I kept constant communication with various departments to help assist web managers transition to a new CMS (Hannon Hill).• Using data gathered from surveys and focus groups, redesigned the student portal website (Tritonlink).• Conducted qualitative user research to improve the design and layout of websites using the Hannon Hill CMS including: usability testing, card sorting, contextual inquiry, focus groups, and heuristic analyses.• Gathered user requirements, identified problems, and developed wireframes to recommend improvements to promote ease of use.• Implemented designs using validated HTML and CSS.• Researched and reported on ways to optimize the university's websites for mobile devices.

As an intern, I worked alongside the usability director to gather user data and conduct formal evaluations for various university websites. The main project involved a redesign of the faculty & staff portal (blink.ucsd.edu).• For the new faculty and staff portal, I conducted and analyzed results from remote card sort studies (using OptimalSort) with over 400 users. Revealed clear and efficient information architectures that a majority of users agreed on.• Conducted think-aloud tests with faculty, staff, and students to measure effectiveness of new features on university websites.• Wrote formal heuristic evaluations of pre-launch websites using standard web usability heuristics.
