As part of a small team of developers, our role was initially to maintain and provide new features for our existing portfolio of Java/Tapestry/Spring/Hibernate and Ruby on Rails websites.We redeveloped our E-Commerce website from the ground up using Python/Django. This included integrating with an existing Filemaker driven mail order system, integrating with an external payment gateway, provided SOAP and RESTful APIs for our internal systems, task handling via message queueing and interacted with external web services such as Mailchimp and Google Merchant Center.We redeveloped our magazine publishing website using Python/Django providing catalogue, blog and competition functionality and 'in page' editing of content.We redeveloped our books publishing website using Python/Django providing catalogue functionality and integration with an existing Filemaker backend system. We also provided a SOAP API to interact with our internal systems.We rebuilt the web hardware infrastructure completely and provided ongoing maintenance. This included installation of new web servers (Nginx/Apache), db/replication servers (MySQL), search engine servers (Solr), web service servers (SOAP), message queue server (RabbitMQ/AMQP) and caching servers (Memcached).
