Served as the organisation's first Global Director, Safety and Security responsible for developing organisational policies and standards, staff training and education, program management, and oversight of surge capacity missions to twenty-three countries over four continents. • Created a security policy, inaugurated a Security Risk Management structure and developed a Security Risk Management Policy Framework based on elements of the UNSMS (United Nations Security Management System), NGO security management strategies and other risk management principles such as ISO 31000 – 2009 Risk Management Principles. • Established first overarching structure for Program Criticality, acceptance risk management in an NGO.• Developed and facilitate security risk assessment and organisational security standards training modules that have resulted in mainstreaming security risk assessments into the organisation's country operations.• Monitor and respond to security incidents across the globe and serve as a core member of RI’s internal management team for ethics and integrity.

Led security management efforts for the country office in a volatile, high-risk environment inclusive of providing seven in-country UNICEF offices with guidance and technical assistance for all aspects of security management and crisis readiness. • Led the largest international security team in UNICEF’s history during the emergency response to the 2010 floods.• Conducted daily analysis of security risk in the region and advised the Representative and program heads accordingly.• Ensured all staff were trained in First Aid and one third of all staff trained in Pre-Hospitalization Emergency Care.• Initiated and oversaw the relocation of five UNICEF offices to maximum security compounds, inclusive of full-blast protection and a guard force of over 300.• Wrote standard operating procedures, conducted inter-agency security assessments and briefings that were central to the agency’s overall security leadership across the country.

Responsible for the analysis of the crisis response capabilities of OCS to global security emergencies and development of security management guidelines for management and field staff. Expand the resource pool for field security emergency response and placement of field security staff in field offices. Critical analysis and revision of current training programs with lessons learned and best practises. Develop curriculum and course content for customized Humanitarian Security Training workshops.Preparations for security management training events, including Hostage Survival Skills, Personal Security Awareness Training, Practical Security Management Training, Strategic Security Management and specialized security training for the organisation’s 26,000 staff.Development of accountability systems to ensure the training syllabus is applied in the field. Work with Communications Department giving advice and guidance in dealing with media and media messaging with regards to critical incident management with a particular focus on messaging for advocacy.

Responsible for employing and training of security staff and conducting emergency response security operations. Duties involved initiating and carrying out Risk Assessments in the various countries of operation, mostly high risk, and conflict environments. Develop and review appropriate Contingency Plans for evacuation and relocation, as well as medical evacuation. Ensure the implementation of the minimum Security Management Guidelines established by the Corporate Security Office and give guidelines for Corporate Security to respond.Organise, implement and follow-up the promotion of Security Awareness. Prepare training plans and develop networks with other organisations regarding security, including Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC).Attend Country Security Officer Meetings for the various regions with 110+ country offices globally.Identify areas of Security Management requiring external support.

Daily running of operations to ensure security compliance within Iraq and Amman, Jordan, including staff movements and convoy operations in urban and field settings. As part of a Security cell advising management, duties involved keeping 600 UN and OLS NGO staff in South Sudan safe. Duties included conducting three day security workshops for all OLS staff, assessment missions to more than 800 locations in rebel held areas of South Sudan, relocations of Staff, MEDEVAC of staff and accompanying of OLS teams into high threat areas. Completed Search and Rescue operations for missing staff and hostage negotiations as required. All four UN Agencies and 43 NGO organizations that belonged to OLS Southern Sector were managed and trained by our team.

Responsible for organising mass events and conferences. Coordinating and developing strategies in over 11 countries throughout Africa. Working closely with community based organisations and community leaders, motivating and encouraging their participation in events. Forming and chairing of committees for the furtherance of set goals (usually with more than 200 members on a committee.) Liaison with Governmental authorities to obtain the necessary venues and legal permits. Advertising campaigns, Public Relations, including radio and TV interviews. Logistics involving transport, communications, security, accommodation, meals etc. Management and oversight of close protection for international visitors. Scheduling and organizing international flights as well as landing permits etc. Scheduling, program management and supervision thereof, budgeting on various levels.
