Upon graduating from his psychiatric training program in 1991 as Chief Resident, Dr. Baum moved to Cherry Hill, NJ. During this period, he and his wife started a family while she completed her fellowship in pediatric critical care. At this point in his career, Dr. Baum developed an interest in the administration of treatment for the seriously mentally ill and indigent populations. He began working as a Staff Psychiatrist at a Camden County Health Services Center, a psychiatric hospital and nursing home complex in Blackwood, NJ where he was promoted the following year to the position of Associate Director, followed by Clinical Co-Director. While working in this setting, he had the opportunity to work directly with medical students and psychiatric residents and developed a love of teaching. In 1998, Dr. Baum accepted a position at Saint Barnabas psychiatric hospital in Toms River where he became the Chief of Staff the following year. In 2002, Dr. Baum followed up on his love of teaching by becoming a Clinical Assistant Professor at what is now Rutgers Behavioral Health Center in Piscataway, NJ where he was recognized as Teacher of the Year. During this same period, he was also appointed as a Consultant for the Department of Psychiatry at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. In addition, he served as Unit Chief for Acute Adult Services, which involved oversight of psychiatric emergency services, the adult inpatient unit and partial hospital program at University Behavioral Health Care, Piscataway, NJ. In 2005, Dr. Baum decided to change gears an opened a private practice where he continues to provide the highest standard of care to his patients as a Board Certified Psychiatrist. In addition to his practice, he also maintains his affiliation with Rutgers University Behavioral Healthcare in their University Correctional Healthcare division.
