About Raymond Levitt

Joined Blackhorn Ventures as an Operating Partner in 2017. Blackhorn Ventures, LLC, invests in Seed, A and B Rounds of startups that develop defensible breakthrough technologies, building on emerging IT capabilities, to dramatically enhance resource efficiency in the built environment, transportation/logistics and energy sectors of the real economy. Lead partner for Blackhorn's Built Environment sector investments in startups that deliver solutions for all stages of the construction process: planning, design, construction and facility management. President of the Farmers Investment Club, a Stanford-based angel investment partnership that invests in the very early stages of promising startups, 2005-present.Civil Engineering undergraduate degree from U. of Witwatersrand in South Africa. MS and PhD in Construction Management from Stanford University. Prior to joining Blackhorn, worked five years on the civil engineering faculty at MIT and then moved to Stanford. Retired from Stanford in 2017 as Kumagai Professor of Engineering, Emeritus, after co-leading the "Digital Cities” initiative in Stanford’s Global Projects Center with Adjunct Professor Mike Steep. Past research, teaching, executive education and consulting has focused on organization design for projects and project-based companies, entrepreneurship, and governance arrangements for private-public partnerships to develop infrastructure in developing and developed countries, and Digital Cities.Co-founded three software startups in the Built Environment sector: as CEO and Chairman of Vité Corporation, and as Non-Executive Chairman of Design Power, Inc. Co-founder and Director of Rackwise, Inc.Conceived and directed Stanford's Advanced Project Management program, an award-winning executive education certificate program that graduated more than 10,000 upwardly-mobile middle managers over almost 20 years. This program had 14 separate courses that taught managers from a range of industries how to leverage the concepts and tools of portfolio, program and project management to reliably execute all kinds of strategic initiatives successfully. The concepts taught in this program were laid out in a Harvard Business School Press book called "Executing Your Strategy: How to Break it Down and Get it Done."
