My main roles are, The day to day husbandry, enrichment and observation of the round I'm currently working to the highest standard, these include Natives, Birds or the Exotics. Preparing, including the butchering of carcasses, feeding out daily diets and medications that may be required. Presenting educational, conservational and informative talks to the public, these include Lions, Reptiles and Tassie Devils but also many other species on our guided walks for group bookings. Driving the Safari bus while making the trip informative and jovial for the guests.As the Park manager I'm responsible for the day to day operations of the facility, advising staff on extra duties required, expenditure, capture and restraint of dangerous species, monitoring of staffs record keeping, stock count for govermental reporting,Oh&s, monitor diets being delivered meet requirments, stock ordering of foods and supplements, minimum standards of husbandry and all staff training.The zoo has grown incredibly since I 1st started, from just 3 devil pens to 11, housing now 2 colonies of Cotton eared Marmosets, dramatically increased the number of bird aviaries from 11 to 24 including the largest walk thru aviary in Tasmania. I have been instramental in the suceessful breeding of Common Wombats, both Eastern and Spotted tailed Quolls and 2 litters of White Lion cubs

I was employed as the Senior carnivore keeper, responsible for the welfare and husbandry of the White Lions and Bengal tigers. would also assist the other keepers with their animals.Key responsibilites include,Implemented a rounds system to ensure staff accountability for animals in their care.Tightened and streamlined the volunteer program.Initiated animal enrichment as being a core duty for keepers.The setting and training of minimum standards for husbandry with animals housed within the collection.Creating specific and varied diets based on the natural diet of the species.Set up a record keeping system, to give staff a longer term history of the animals and a way for staff to communicate better between them. We have 15 staff, most being casual and working 1-2 days per fortnight.

I was employed initially as a delivery driver, but due to my organisational skills,staff supervision and attention to details i was soon promoted to the Assistant manager. This roles saw me working closely with the manager to achieve customer satisfaction, budgets, stock control, wastage minimisation, team supervision, balancing daily cash transactions, achieving the organisations goals for cleanliness and sales.

Due to my eye for details, organisation skills and ability to manage the staff in an appropriate manner, I had various management positions. I was acting Curator for 6 months untill a more qualified person could be found. I then reverted back to operations manager and senior keeper. this saw me working closely with the Curator to achieve expectations from the owner. I oversaw that staff were meeting husbandry standards, diets , record keeping, budgets, enclosure maintenance, liaising with staff and dealing with complaints or incidents. I also escorted our Sumartrian Tiger to Perth zoo for a succesful breeding. During my week there I trained the staff about his behaviour, diet likes and enrichment.

The park was purchased from the liqiudators and had a name change. I was kept on as a senior keeper to train all new staff employed on how to work with these exotic species. Introducing the staff to safe working proceedures, diets, enrichment and educational presentations.I was the go to guy for new and inovative enrichment ideas, observation of abnormal behaviour, medical treatments and starting record keeping. I hand raised several litters of Lion cubs, suceesfully reintroducing them with other lions to form a 3 pride.Maintained and repaired the extensive electric fence system employed at the zoo to give visitors a greater view of the animals.

I was employed by the liquidators after 1 of the 2 staff maintaining the collection left. This was because of the dedication, hard work and initiative i had shown during my time volunteering. I gained valuable experience with many dangerous animals during this time, these being Lions, Tigers, Bears, Hippos both common and Pygmy, Rhino, Samba, Chittal and Rusa deer, Ostriches. The less dangerous species included Cheetah, Black crested Sulawesi Macaques, Ring tailed Lemurs, Black handed spider Monkeys and Japanese Macaques.
