Promoted from Systems Analyst to Technical Consultant after successfully designing, developing, and implementing the Northwest Territories' (NWT) Motor Vehicles system (MVIS) in 6 person/years less than the original estimates. The MVIS is still in use today in the NWT and Nunavut Territories (NT). Responsibility for ensuring continuous, trouble-free operation of complete network of systems consisting of HP3000 and HP9000 minicomputers, and Novell and Windows NT servers distributed throughout the Northwest Territories. Supported all network protocols and operating systems including MPE/iX, UNIX, and Windows NT flavors. Responsible for developing and implementing operational procedures. Made recommendations to senior management as to the future of information systems in the GNWT and finding cost effective solutions that work toward stated objectives.

Responsibility for overseeing installation and reworking of $1.2 million Asea process control system for electric arc furnaces. System required major corrections and enhancements before acceptance. After installation and redevelopment, average pay back was $18,000 to $122,000/day. System configuration included DEC Micro PDP-11/83, Asea Masters and Tesselators. Assisted in the development of accounting systems include GL, Receivables and Payables in an IBM 360/370/4381 environment.

Worked on software engineering team developing operating systems for devices manufactured by the company. Developed good understanding of all hardware and software technical aspects of computing. Started as a Technical Writer while in school as a full-time student and was promoted to Programmer/Analyst.
