Creating solutions to problematic issues and errors in Ellucian Colleague applications is a large part of my work. Another major part is the development of new custom software, including custom subsystems, data exports and very customized computer columns (virtual fields). I use Colleague Studio and its debugger, in addition to having experience with multivalue (Pick) OS's and their debuggers.

Colleague Programmer/Analyst and Entrinsik Informer System Administrator- Budget officer reports on GL data were developed by me that function outside of the Colleague budget officer reporting resources. This was done with custom screens, cross-reference files and computed columns developed in Colleague Studio, and with Informer. Informer's row level security and my custom Studio programming allow budget officers to view data for only an assigned set of GL function codes. The screens allow for maintenance of those sets and for transfer of a set from a departing budget officer to an incoming one. I was told that this ended multiple days of work spent on data entry each month by the finance department.- Complete compliance and data access systems for the education and nursing departments were designed and programmed by me. The software reflects the departments' student requirement milestones for their degree programs. The custom screens pertaining to each milestone allow data entry to record the state of student requirements involving actions for which there is no Colleague data, such as getting fingerprinted. The screens also provide automated evaluation of individual academic requirements, such as requirements on cume, number of credits and specific course/grade requirements. The screens make an automated overall decision on the passing or failing of the milestones. The software also allows for the recorded override of any milestone for exceptional cases. All data is reportable on Informer, which allows for elaborate reports on trends, academic weaknesses and so on. The system insures compliance with important requirements imposed by CAEP and Middle States on the education department, and provides similar value for the nursing department. It provides essential access to data on the progress of students, which helps insure continued accreditation.- A process to import N.Y.S. education exam student data into the Colleague system was another achievement.

My work included completing several top-profile software development projects on their Multivalue/Pick administrative database.∙ The complete overhauling of the 403b annuity employer contribution schedule determination process was a major project. Before, the process only created initial schedules that were updated manually. I made the process into one that also maintains existing schedules, updating them based on changing employee contribution data. This was taken to the next level with a subsequent related project to make a process that performs a comprehensive audit of all employer contribution schedules in the system, identifying those that are in error and do not follow the University’s rules.∙ Another major project was the rewriting of the employee attendance data update process for Human Resources. It was started by an outside consultant and abruptly left mostly unfinished with his departure. It was the process singularly responsible for providing various employee attendance data, such as accruals of vacation and sick days, and the remaining and year-end carryover values of same. The additions I made were very complex due to rules making accrual and other data dependent on conditions such as leave taken, the job class of the employee and union rules.∙ I designed and programmed an accounts receivable data purge. After an unfortunate attempt at the task before my time there, the project was left for five years until it was assigned to me. I designed the task to not use a temporary work file for item rekeying, as had my predecessor’s. I also used an algorithm that brought to a bare minimum the disk I/O needed to do the purge. Well over a million items were purged in about a half hour. My director asked me to give a class to teach my colleagues how it worked.

Web Developer And Computer Instructor

Independent Consultancy

∙ My work included web development work for Professor Orlando McAllister, head of the Communications and Mathematics Department of The College of New Rochelle. I provided services for a number of special projects he headed.∙ I gave two classes in website design and programming for undergraduates in The College of New Rochelle, as part of a computer science course given by Professor Orlando McAllister. The course's goal was to enable beginners to create at least a basic website using tools available either on their home personal computer or on the Web for free.∙ My work included providing web and database development services to The Volunteer Prevention Group, a non-profit organization. I developed, administered and promoted their website. I designed and developed their client database in Access, and provided training services.∙ My webmastery experience included the development and promotion of the website for the very high end bakery Something Sweet Pastry in the East Village of New York City.

This position involved developing and maintaining the company’s insurance application, administrating the system at the Pick and UNIX levels, and supporting the conversion to a non-Pick system.∙ One project was the creation of a data tracking system involving data submission and retrieval from a Federal agency. The system retrieved and recorded information on acceptance, rejection and correction of submitted health care data on members. Another project was a complex report and update that determined whether a member could be assigned a nursing-home-institutional status based on inpatient nursing home stays and an involved criterion set by Federal regulations.∙ I determined and implemented the correction of a problem where member data was not being updated with eyeglass issuance and optometrist visit information. The member services manager told me that this was a problem for over ten years. It involved very detailed analysis of related software over multiple modules.∙ My duties of system administration included daily monitoring of the UniVision system. It also included file resizing, data purging and other usual aspects of Pick system maintenance. From among the staff I was selected as UNIX system administrator, and had light to medium administration duties. On occasions I worked with VIA Systems support experts to restore system availability using tools at both UNIX and Pick levels.
