Dr. Hwang is Medical Director and Vice President at Lantern Surgery Care and Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine. He is a spine surgeon at New England Baptist Hospital, a musculoskeletal specialty hospital in Boston, where he sits on the Institutional Review Board and Perioperative Executive Products Committee. Dr. Hwang is a member of the Beth Israel Lahey Health System (BILH) Physician Advisory Council and the BILH Musculoskeletal Steering Committee. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the North American Spine Society, a reviewer for leading spine journals and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Previously he was Senior Medical Director at Hinge Health where he oversaw clinical product development, operations and strategy. His clinical practice focuses on adult degenerative spine conditions with a particular interest in motion sparing technology, minimally invasive fusion and robotics. He is an instructor for contemporary spine surgery techniques including MIS TLIF, ATP/LLIF, surgical navigation and robotic assisted surgery. His research interests include spine surgery outcomes and value analysis. Dr. Hwang has co-authored numerous peer reviewed publications, book chapters and presentations. Dr. Hwang has over a decade of experience as an early-stage investor and advisor to start ups and corporations focused on digital health, healthcare IT and medical devices. He has a particular interest in device development and has participated in the design of various surgical instruments and spine implants.
