Het belangrijkste doel van SCIRT is om synergie te behalen binnen het veld van beveiligingsexperts van de bij SURFnet aangesloten instellingen.SCIRT wil een ontmoetingsplaats voor leden van lokale CERT's (en vergelijkbare functionarissen), waar ideeën en ervaringen uitgewisseld kunnen worden. Dit allemaal met focus op operationele security en security incident management.

Het CERT-team (Computer Emergency Response Team) draagt bij aan een goede ICT-beveiliging op de campus van Tilburg University. Doel van CERT is op te treden bij beveiligingsincidenten die de dienstverlening dermate verstoren dat snel en adequaat handelen noodzakelijk is om schade aan computers en/of netwerken zoveel mogelijk te reduceren en de dienstverlening te herstellen.Taken CERT:+ Het inrichten en operationeel houden van een meldpunt voor beveiligingsincidenten en adequate afhandeling hiervan.+ Voorlichting geven over preventie en actuele bedreigingen (waaronder andere CERT's waarschuwen).+ Adviserende rol omtrent ICT-beveiliging op de universiteit.+ Verzorgen van presentaties/demonstraties op het gebied van ICT-beveiliging (Awareness).+ Auditeren van ICT-infrastructuur tot applicatie.
