Ray Morquecho's professional journey began at the University of California at Irvine where he put himself through school by bartending. After graduation, Ray earned a position as District Representative for the Michelle Steel during her time as Vice Chair of the Board of Equalization. As the direct line of contact for the Vice Chair's office and her seven million constituents, Ray polished his communication skills, research abilities, and was introduced to bureaucracy and the ways to work with and around it. The Vice Chair's term limit was reached and he found an opportunity to open his own business, Caliblu Surf School. While helping steer this new business, Ray managed a steakhouse's bar program and eventually found his way to the automotive industry. In 2016, he moved to MADNESS Autoworks as their Sales Manager. Even though his business and day job accounted for most of his time, Ray still participated in politics and stayed engaged in his community. This led to the reason he left the automotive aftermarket. In 2019, there was an opportunity for Ray to run for Long Beach's First City Council District. Although he was not successful in becoming councilmember, by running an effective, issues-focused campaign, he did create the opportunity to be the victor's Chief of Staff. As Chief, Ray had to manage a the council office staff, legislative agenda, budget, and constituent needs, all during the unprecedented pandemic.The experience working to uplift some of Long Beach's most challenged neighborhoods led directly to an opportunity with the L.A. Mayor's Office of Public Safety as the Senior Policy Director. In this position, he was responsible for creating policy and being the direct liaison with the Los Angeles Police Department. As is the way with political offices, a new mayor was elected and changes happen. Ray took this opportunity to utilize all the connections he had made throughout California to earn a position with AGC of California as their Southern California, Director of Government Affairs.Ray's journey also includes graduating from Leadership Long Beach Institute's Class of 2022 and returning as a Facilitator for the Institute's 2023 and 2024 Classes, being a Board Member for Meals on Wheels of Long Beach, and being appointed to the Long Beach Homeless Services Advisory Commission. Ray is excited for what comes next in his new home of St. Paul, Minnesota and how he can apply his unique combination of entrepreneurial spirit, private/public sector experience, and decades of service to better his community.
