Responsible for the implementation of all phases of the NC Division of Air Quality (DAQ) program for the 14 counties of North Carolina covered by the Winston Salem Regional Office, requiring knowledge and understanding of the entire program as it relates to state and federal air quality regulations and how each phase relates to the whole. Responsibilities include planning work operations, establishing priorities, and implementing the DAQ program at the regional office level through the effective use and supervision of a multi-disciplinary staff of engineers, chemists, specialists, technicians and a compliance supervisor. Regional program implementation occurs through work units designated for permitting, compliance, and ambient monitoring. The Regional Air Quality Supervisor often serves as an interface between DAQ and a variety of stakeholders facing air quality compliance challenges, requiring effective communication with an ability to interact with tact, consistency and sound judgment. This is evidenced in division-wide efforts such as planning and rule development, and when serving as hearing officer for public hearings when designated by the Director.

Responsibilities include planning work operations, establishing priorities, and implementing the DAQ program at the regional office level through the effective use and supervision of a multi-disciplinary staff of engineers, chemists, specialists, technicians and compliance supervisor. Supervises the compliance staff and coordinates the inspection, compliance, and enforcement activities in the Winston-Salem Regional Office. Reviews reports and letters produced by compliance staff to assure that inspection reports and enforcement actions adhere to current policy and regulations; trains compliance staff in inspection techniques and procedures; sets inspection targeting and assignments. Supervises functions, including hiring, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions. Conducts on-site compliance inspections at facilities with more complex processes and control systems or at facilities with serious compliance problems. Acts as technical advisor and consultant to the Air Quality staff, state and federal agencies, and the general public. Acts on behalf of the Regional Air Quality Supervisor in their absence.
