School of Agriculture and EnvironmentIn 1996 I accepted a formal academic relationship as an Adjunct Researcher with UWA’s then Department of Geography and began contributing to the academic program, supervising Honours and Postgraduate Degree research students, and lecturing on a range of science topics, and in 2002 as Adjunct Senior Research Fellow I was invited to run the third year course on Environmental Change, and expanded the content on the science, economics and politics of climate change and global warming, a course I ran until 2006, and continued to contribute to until 2009.I was conferred title of Adjunct Professor in June 2009 by Vice Chancellor Prof Alan Robson in recognition of my contribution to the University development and teaching.I have continued to support the work of UWA, attached to what is now the the School of Agriculture and Environment, and give occasional lectures science, economics and politics of climate change, and the adoption rates of technology including trends in clean tech and social media, to various Schools including Business, Law and, of course, Agriculture and Environment. By invitation of the Vice Chancellor in 2009, I joined the Vice Chancellor's Sustainability Committee, and provide advice to the University on sustainability, and also expert commentary on climate change and sustainability to the media on behalf of UWA.I contribute to the scientific peer review process, and was recognised as an Outstanding Reviewer by Elsevier in May 2015 for being in the top 10th percentile of reviewers for the Journal Energy Policy, and have completed more than 50 manuscript reviews in the last 4 years.

Principal Research Officer in the Legislative Assembly with the Parliament of Western Australia. As a senior parliamentary officer, I had high level contacts with Members of Parliament and with senior executives, including chief executives, in a range of agencies in the public sector including environmental and resource management agencies. In the first year at Parliament I was attached to the Joint Standing Committee on the Anti-corruption Commission (JSCACC - now replaced by the JSC on the Crime and Corruption Commission.)From July 2002 I worked with the Economics and Industry Standing Committee (EISC).

Vice-President of the Ecological Society of Australia (ESA), a professional organisation established to promote ecological research and communication, and the peak group of ecologists in Australia with over 1500 members. My role included assisting the President in formulating the policies of the Society and regularly represent the ESA in various fora. As a long-serving and now senior member of the ESA Council, contributed to the development of Society policies, including the development of ESA Position Statements, documents designed to guide and aid the ESA President when making public comment on issues relevant to the Society and its members. I was one of the key architects of the development of the first business plan for the ESA, a document which began development in 1999 and first implemented in July 2002. I continued to manage the web site of the ESA that I developed as Bulletin Editor (see below) up until the beginning of 2003 when (on my recommendation via the business plan mentioned above) the society launched a professionally developed site (www.ecolsoc.org.au) including a portal for member services.

Contributed as an Executive Member of Council to the management and operation of the Society; managed the correspondence of the Society; undertook necessary arrangements for Council, Executive Council and General Meetings, and managed other Society business; managed the web site of the ESA.

Assembled, edited and published quarterly issues of the Bulletin of the Ecological Society of Australia, which in 1997 had a production run of 1250 copies. Developed and managed the web site of the ESA. Contributed as an senior member of Council to the management and operation of the Society.

Working as a volunteer with the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) in April and July 2003, I joined Dr Ian McLean, an internationally recognised expert on dog behaviour and lead scientist on studies initiated by GICHD. I worked as a field specialist to studies on the use of dogs in demining programs in Afghanistan. The study correlated dog behaviour and various environmental measures (air temperature and humidity, soil temperature and moisture, wind, vegetation cover) with dog indications of the presence of mines (including false indications).

I was a senior professional at the Botanic Gardens & Parks Authority (BGPA), and was a key contributor in a variety of roles in the development of various strategic, business, implementation, and environmental management plans. This included both Kings Park, Perth’s most highly visited tourist destination, and Bold Park, Perth’s largest inner-metropolitan reserve. These plans dealt with the management of conservation reserves by the BGPA, and include the conceptual development of visitor and interpretative facilities, tourist-focused landscape displays. Preparation of business plans included the allocation of resources for logistical requirements of seed collection, greenstock production, site preparation, planting, weed control, and feral animal control; research requirements; and development of key measures of management outcomes.

Science & Information Division, Department of Conservation and Land Management: Research Scientist: examined the ecological impact of plant diseases including Phytophthora, and prepared policy and management strategies for ecological communities at risk. Work published in scientific journals and management plans. Also established a spatial database of relevant biophysical data and remote-sensed imagery to model the dynamic effects of infection.
