Focusing on violence from a health-centered lens, Detroit Life is Valuable Everyday (D.L.I.V.E.) has been the catalyst of transformation within the lives of the victims of trauma and their families by connecting them to real supportive services in the form of transportation, basic needs such as housing and utility assistance, and behavioral health care in the form of it’s own specially designed Mental Fitness and Trauma Peer Support Groups. Under the leadership of Ray and with the support of specially trained Violence Intervention Specialists and Case Management Specialists, members are supported and mentored through trauma-informed care. They identify the goals that are important and critical in their transformation and with the support of the DLIVE staff, they develop an action plan to achieve them.Ray’s work has contributed to DLIVE’s local and national media recognition, grant funding and instrumental strategic community partnerships as DLIVE continues to post amazing results. In 2017, Ray received the Willis Young Award – a national award given by the National Network of Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Programs to the top Violence Intervention Specialists of the year. He has served as a consultant for violence prevention and intervention strategies to the Battle Creek, MI Police Department, Saginaw, MI Police Department, and Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department. He is also an acting advisor to the Mayor’s Office in the City of Detroit. Ray continues to progress in his leadership role within DLIVE as he helps to provide critical leadership in the growth and expansion of DLIVE and serve as a consultant to other organizations.
