I was internally recruited by TripAdvisor.com Experiences (d/b/a Viator.com) in Summer 2018 to assist with migration of legacy Viator applications from Java/PHP on VMs to Docker/Kubernetes in AWS, scale-out their operations and refactor/streamline processes to meet aggressive revenue growth targets. TripAdvisor was going all-in on Tours & Activities, investing massively to secure the largest slice of what was expected to be a $200+ billion/year opportunity by 2020. Built and managed DoubleClick's mission-critical UNIX (Solaris, Linux) systems and enterprise SAN storage infrastructure which spanned multiple datacenters and supported all key revenue-generating activities of the company's Media, Data Services, Research, and E-Mail businesses. Supported "DART"—one of the largest real-time data analysis systems in the world, processing billions of ad-serving events per day. Implemented a Disaster Recovery solution for mission-critical Oracle databases, leveraging synchronous multi-hop SRDF replication over FCIP links between NYC and Colorado. Tuned Linux, Solaris, and NT4/Win2k kernels, TCP/IP stacks, and web server software for optimal performance. Served as primary DNS administrator; deployed a load- balanced, fault-tolerant authoritative DNS infrastructure using Sun servers and ArrowPoint (now Cisco) L4 switches and replaced BIND on internal caching nameservers (resolvers) with dnscache/djbdns for enhanced security.
