Managed engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) consultancies (i.e., Jacobs, Mangan, Gekko, Terry Engineering, et al.) retained to support Tesoro capital projects. Directed the development of the scope and +/- 30% Class 2 and +/- 10% Class 3 total-installed-cost (TIC) estimates for capital projects for the FCCU and Alky turnarounds and for office building tenant-improvement projects. Responsible for Tesoro capital projects profit and loss responsibility and monitoring via SAP. Directed Tesoro project controls functions and monitoring schedule/progress.

Project Manager for Brinderson managing capital projects for Chevron - managing project teams consisting of engineers, designers, and project support staff up to 26 and overseeing multi-craft construction crews up to 10. While there, I executed projects under budget by as much as $800K. While at Chevron, I drove efforts to develop new business by soliciting technical input from lead engineers and designers to develop detailed project scoping and funding estimates, presented them the the client, and obtained client approval to proceed with projects. In addition to my daily interfacing activities with Chevron, I developed project execution plans, project scopes of work, and manpower loading and cost forecasts, and coordinated the development of engineering work order packages for the FCC and Alky turnarounds and other capital projects, developed project schedules and TIC estimates, and directed Project Controls functions including the development of integrated engineering, procurement, and construction resource-loaded Primavera P6 schedules. In addition, I prepared monthly project reports and ran meetings with Chevron. I was then assigned to their Costa Mesa office to fill a critical need supporting Brinderson's BlueFire Ethanol (cellulosic biomass) and THUMS (Occidental Petroleum) offshore upstream projects.

Project Engineer for GE Oil & Gas, a $5.5 billion Florence, Italy-based segment of the General Electric Company. I was the single technical point of contact for our customers and was handling up to 14 Rotoflow turboexpander-compressor projects simultaneously all with different clients in different locations worth over $39 million for installation all over the world. (These expansion turbines are steam-driven or gas-driven and are used in geothermal, air separation, and oil & gas applications.) This position required extensive international (Dubai, Bahrain, Singapore, Rome, and Calgary) and domestic travel for meetings with customers to address project challenges that arose and to supervise equipment and control system testing with multicultural/multinational teams made up from several different companies. These expanderder-compressors/generators were skid-mounted and involved auxiliary equipment including pumps, control valves, filters, heat exchangers, and piping systems.

Managed continuing engineering services contract projects for THUMS (Occidental Petroleum) Long Beach Harbor oil production facilities. Assembled and managed diverse team of twelve engineers and designers. Developed project scopes, schedules, and budgets for projects totaling $1 million. Directed meetings and job walks with client and determined project objectives, allayed concerns, developed project execution strategies, and obtained final scope approvals.

NOx Emission Reduction Technologies for Oil Refineries and Power Plants, $80 million sales.Performed comprehensive technical/commercial feasibility study of seven NOx reduction process options and identified best option with project team for Equilon (now Tesoro) cogeneration unit. Client approved. Performed industry-wide survey of catalysts and distilled technical, price, and delivery data from vendor proposals for all options into a simple matrix which allowed project team, CEO, and client to easily select the best vendor/option. Mentored entry-level process engineer.

[GE purchased Rotoflow from Atlas Copco in the Spring of 2000.] Mechanical Systems Project Engineer for 22 new-order turboexpander or compressor (heavy industrial rotating equipment) and several spare parts, warranty, and redesign projects totaling over $25 million with no reported performance problems after installation and commissioning at client's facility (oil refinery, platform, LNG or air separation plant.) Responded promptly to customer and field inquiries with technical solutions. Interfaced with sub-component vendors and ensured conformance with technical, budgetary, and delivery requirements and with those of our customers. Specified mechanical equipment and instrumentation. Developed auxiliary systems for turboexpander-compressors including lube oil, seal gas, and surge control facilities. Performed calculations and developed technical specifications for instrumentation, oil reservoirs, pumps, motors, oil and gas filters, heat exchangers, accumulators, control valves, actuators, regulators, flow meters, pressure relief valves, piping, and piping components. Calculated gas properties using Hysys (Hysim). Interfaced extensively with vendors and buyers to ensure conformance and function with our technical and delivery time requirements and with those of our customers. Developed RFQ's, performed vendor bid analysis, and responded to budget variances. Determined set-points and ranges for gauges, switches, transmitters, alarms, and shut-downs. Developed P&ID's and bills-of-material for above systems. Developed specification sheets for testing and manufacturing. Provided technical support to spare parts, warranty, and redesign departments.

Performed detailed flare sizing studies and distilled results into simple tables. Conducted process design reviews/presentations with clients and obtained buy-ins on Saudi ARAMCO pipeline project.
