Seven years in the Resort industry, a decade as a GM of a glass and ceramic decorating company, four years at the University of Phoenix Online, a decade working at half a dozen small family owned or closely held businesses in an eclectic group of industries, and finally the last two years working construction and renovating houses for rent or sale, is a scripted plan to help me accomplish my lifetime goals, the ones I determined and wrote down one afternoon all hopped up on a Tony Robbins seminar half a lifetime ago.My main goal in 1992 was to develop a small business consulting company geared for family owned or closely held companies by 2020. Since my first job at 16, I have looked for an area that needed improvement and asked to be given the opportunity to make it better. Most of my career has been either improving a lagging area of a business, or creating a new position or department. I also found that once the goal was accomplished, and systems in place, I was the wrong person to continue in that capacity. It was far better to hire someone that would follow the system and maintain an even keel..My customer service talents are part personality traits and part from my years working for Hilton, Sheraton and Wyndham Resorts, where anticipating needs and exceeding expectations were not words thrown around, but actions that were done on a daily basis.So here I am, having hit the milestones on my journey to starting a small business consulting firm. Funny thing is the landscape had changed over the past decade. The "gig" economy has exploded, now there are thousands of additional self employed, driving for Uber, renting out rooms with AirBnB or selling things on line with their own website or thru Amazon. That means a whole new way of delivering services and marketing to those that would benefit.
