Lead contributor to AiCure’s mission using remote adherence monitoring in clinical trials to help the pharmaceutical industry improve the accuracy of insights from their data. Aligned processes to support blinded pre-randomization and post-randomization removal of patient data from trial datasets based on the analysis of patient behavior during dosing events. In general, given the difficult, ill-defined human and technical challenges which were to be researched, planned, and executed across AiCure’s internal teams and pharmaceutical clients: Led the roll-out and validation of the AI platform which used machine learning (ML) and computer vision (CV) to optimize video queue for manual review. Communicated client and patient needs to the Value, Engineering, and Product teams based on first-hand experience working at the lowest-levels of our data systems. Oversaw the design and development of the Digital Biomarker platform. Conducted end-user research with lightweight prototypes, storytelling aids, and rapid data collection methods to ensure patients’ needs were considered alongside technical requirements. Applied Good AI Practices (GAIP) to our internal data processes. Managed the 10-person Video Review Team and external annotation relationships. Presented the company’s AI strategy for Intentional Non-adherence to the FDA.

Brought an early-stage anesthetic from the bench toward IND filing (scaled from 50 mL to 2 L). Communicated program status supported by data to the MDCO board. GLP documentation and validation of active quantification methods. Contributed to the business plan to support the clinical use, manufacturability at-scale, long-term stability, and secured vendors for global production. Designed and executed animal studies in two species to support PKPD modeling and dosing algorithms.

Program manager for the halogenated ether for injection development program. Quantified, duplicated, and validated the licensed technology in parallel with external CRO. Transformed the tacit knowledge in the lab to GLP and GMP compliance. Project management, research strategy, and budgeting for multi-year effort. Identified and managed our CROs, CMOs, and external vendors.

Helped launch 11 commercial pharmaceutical products. Supervised the research within MDCO’s new 8,000 ft2 simulation center. Designed educational frameworks to support the Acute Cardiovascular Care, Pain, Surgery, Infectious Disease, and Anesthesia divisions. Developed novel technologies for hyper-realistic human patient simulation and pharmacological modeling. Fabricated synthetic animal models for the hemostasis training program

Developed a novel method for event-driven, surgical gesture segmentation. Head trauma simulation systems including ocular and cranio-facial trauma Engineering management for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and complicated airway simulators.

Promoted to take on a leadership role within the lab to head CIMIT’s largest project, establishing a research framework that encouraged innovation within a new acquisition-focused environment. Managed the 6-year-long COMETS robot project from initial concept to final prototype. Successfully helped license this technology in 2009 to CAE Healthcare. Grew funding for our small 5-person research lab from $600k to $1.8M per year.

Directed the design and fabrication of all physical prototypes as well as managed the hardware-software integration of the simulators. Under a special project for the DoD, Led the team on the Army’s technology for rapid vaccination against smallpox bioterrorism attack. Raised $850k for and managed a small team focused on real-time data visualization for disaster response. Provided UX/UI design for 2D neuroendovascular haptics, augmented reality trauma simulation, and 3D laparoscopic data visualization.

Worked on the design and development of several Lotus products within the Knowledge Management Product Group including K-Station, ExpertNetwork, and 1,000 portals. Developed web applications back when JSP, CSS, and XML were cool. Wrote code that could be internationalized in 39 languages at the blink of an eye, and became very familiar with the ins and outs of software development for a HUGE market.

Translated the early-stage inventions from the Lab into product concepts for review by senior leadership. ICTS: real-time surgical simulator. Concept generation, UX and interface design, anatomical modeling. SPLINE: Concept generation for collaborative virtual environment. ComBadge: Asynchronous communication device. Interaction prototyping, enclosure CAD for PCBs. DiamondTouch: Method for dynamic storytelling with tagged and geolocated digital images.
